The "Naturwissenschaftliche
Reise nach Mossambique... in den Jahren 1842
bis 1848 ausgeführt" was a nine volumne
set published in Berlin from 1852-1882.
Wilhelm Peters (1815-1883) was the assistant
of Johannes Müller, the great anatomist
and became the director of the Berlin Zoological
Museum.
Peters plan to undertake an exploration
of Mozambique was supported by Müller and
by Alexander von Humboldt, who was then also
in Berlin. In September 1842 the naturalist
set off aboard a Portuguese convict ship first
to Angola and eventually to Mozambique where
he arrived in June 1843. He was the first scientist
to document many species in the region.
Condition: Some light spotting
around the outer edges. Otherwise a very clean
and attractive sheet. Some creases in upper
portion of image
