The Childhood of Jacques Callot
19th Century lithograph of a painting by A. De Lemur
which was exibited in the Salon de 1839. The print was published
during the same period in L'Artist magazine.
This scene shows an episode from the childhood of
the great French engraver Jacques Callot (C.1592-1635). Callot's
father wanted him to become a priest, but the boy was so determined
to follow a career in art that in 1604 at the age of 12 he ran away
to Italy in the company of a band of gypsies.
Spotting, particularly in margins and rough edges,
but would look marvelous matted and framed.
