Handcolored 19th century fashion plates come from the magazine Les Modes Parisiennes which was published in Paris from 1843 to 1875.

This print was drawn by by Francois-Claudins Compte-Calix (1813-1880) who was the principal illustrator for this magazine. It is signed Compte Calix in the plate.

 

Two friends in spring pastels hold a conversation in an elegant salon. The standing woman shown from the back is probably an expectant mother wearing a Victorian maternity jacket.

 

Dimensions: Around 8.25 X 11 inches

 

Lightly crinkled, with some light browing spotting, slightly rough edges. There is a small black spot in the plate to the left of the column.
