Albertolli - Candelabra Design
A strikingly elegant antique engraving (circa
1805) by the famous Swiss-Italian architect
and designer Giocondo Albertolli, who among
other things, did the interior decor for the
La Scala Opera House and the Uffizi in Florence.
Giocondo Albertolli (1742-1839) was
a member of a distinguished Swiss-Italian family
of artists, architects and teachers. He became
famous for his refined architectural decorations
in stucco, and he did decors for the Palazzo
Pitti and the Uffizi in Florence, La Scala and
the Palazzo Reale in Milano
Albertolli's style was based on fifteenth-
and sixteenth-century Tuscan stuccowork, and
he also found inspirtation in the architectural
finds at Pompei and Herculaneum which were being
excavated at that time.
We believe this print most likely comes from
the book: Corso elementare di ornamenti architettonici.

This book was published around 1805 by Albertolli
with masterful engravings done after his drawings
by Giacomo Mercoli and Ambrogio Barioli.
The text at the bottom of the print reads:
Gioc. Alertolli inv. e dis, -- "Candelabro
in grande, che fa lórnamento della contonata
del volto dimonstrato nella Tav. XIII - Giac
Mercoli nipote inc.
Dimensions: 12.5 X 18.5 inches
Condition: Light toning of sheet, with
some very faint spots. Several light creases
running across the center. Two small tears running
in from margins, one around 1 inch, one around
1/2
