Martin Michel-Charles Gaudin was born in Saint-Denis in 1756. Napoleon made him his Minister of Finance and gave him the title of Duc de Gaete. Gaudin was the founder of the Bank of France (Banque de France) and later its governor. After the Bourbon restoration, Gaudin served as deputy for the Aisne département.
