Provenance: This mask comes from the collection of Witold Grünbaum (1921-2007) and his wife Fridel who over their lifetimes assembled an impressive collection of African art and sculpture.
As a director of Philip Morris, Witold Grünbaum traveled frequently, including to Nigéria, where he collected statues and masks such as this one. In 2006, Witbold created the Fondation Fridel et Witold Guenbaum pour la Connaissance des cultures et des savoires humains.
