Portrait of a German Gentleman

This spectacular portrait shows a blond gentleman in a green velvet jacket. He is meticulously painted from the delicate and very neatly coifed curls in his hair to the details of the paisly in the bit of his vest that is showing where the flap of his jacket opens.

The painting is executed in oil on what is either paper that has been mounted on some kind of metalic surface, or perhaps painted directly on copper. The auction house where we originally purchased it described it as an oil on paper, however when tapped lightly with a fingernail it gives a slightly metalic sound, and the detail and light sheen makes us think it might have been painted directly on a very thin sheet of copper.

Comes with a beautiful antique gilt wooden frame.
The glass from the frame is missing.
