Entitled: "Le Cadeau (The Present).

 

The text beneath reads:

"Vite mon cheri, viens me le mettre"

(Quick my dear, come and put it on me!)

 

Rouveyre had a career that combined both the visual and litterary arts. He was a close friend of both Matisse and Apollinaire. He is known for his witty caricatures, as well as for his satirical writings.

 

Rouveyre maintained a long and intense correspondence with Matisse, and sat for a famous portrait by that artist and was also the subject of a well-known portrait by Modigliani.
