Albert Merz studied at the Schule für Gestaltung in Luzern and the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin.

 

He has lived and worked in Berlin since 1980 where he was close to the movement known as the "Neue Wilden" (the new fauves) and other influences include the work of Sigmar Polke.
