János György Simon / Jean Georges Simon

(1894-1968)

Born in Trieste, Simon left Hungary in 1920, living an itinerant life as an artist working variously in Switzerland, Italy and Belgium. In 1924 he attended the academie Julien in Paris (this work was done during that period). Simon eventually settled in England in 1938 after marrying an English woman.

The Benezit describes Simon as an "Post-Impressionist who was influenced in turn by Cubism, Expressionism and Futurism."

The futurist influence is particularly evident in this beautiful pastel which perfectly captures movement and sunlight on a street in Paris.

Signed G. Simon and Annotated Paris [19] 24.
