The Austrian artist Anton Konrad
Schmidt (1887-1974) studied at Vienna's Akademie
der Bildenden Künste (Academy of Fine Arts).
His work became very popular, and even the Kaiser
purcahsed a painting. Awared the Honors of the
City of Vienna, Schmidt's works were purchased
by the Albertina and other major collections.
He traveled extensively throughout Europe.
This watercolor shows a colorful
sunny village scene somewhere in southern Europe.
Women and children have gathered in the streets.
This may be southern Italy sometime just after
WWII. Schmidt traveled a good deal during that
period.
Nicely framed and ready to hang.
