Dated May 1844 (or 1849 - the last digit is blurred) on the reverse of the canvas and annotated "Paris."

 

We do know know whether Henriette is the family name or first name of the painter.

 

A handsome gentleman in a silver bowler hat stands in a grotto with two bird dogs (springer spaniels ?).
